Website Disaster Recovery Basics for Small and Medium Businesses

Turn backups, documentation and recovery priorities into a practical disaster recovery plan.

Disaster recovery goes beyond keeping backup files. The business should know which systems need to return first, who is responsible for recovery and where the information needed to rebuild the service is stored.

What to consider

Document domains, DNS, hosting accounts, databases, third-party integrations and administrator ownership. Recovery becomes much faster when credentials, dependencies and restoration steps are known before an incident.

Test the plan using a controlled restore or staging environment. Gaps found during a test are far less expensive than discovering them during a real outage.
